The George County School District has partnered with Chartwells as our Contract Food Management Company starting in the 2023-2024 academic year.

What this contract means for GCSD?:

-ALL current George County School District Child Nutrition Department workers will have the option to remain employed by Chartwells with an improved salary and benefit package. No employee will lose their job.

-ALL students will still eat free breakfast and lunch for the 2023-2024 school year.

-Chartwells has extensive buying power, which will allow us to provide a wider variety and higher quality of food options for our students.

Why Chartwells?

1.    They have unmatched purchasing power. They can get the highest quality products at the best value. They have the power to minimize supply chain disruptions and inflation.

2.    Due to that purchasing power, they are able to listen to the needs of the students, staff, administrators, parents and community through surveys, focus groups, Principal Scoreboards, and technology based feedback options. They then have the ability implement those food preferences into the menus.

3.    They have the largest team of chefs and registered dieticians in the industry that work daily to deliver the highest-quality food by using exceptional ingredients, and using data/feedback to inform menu design.

4.    They empower employees to create happy cafeterias. They provide support, resources, training, and recognition to employees.

5.    Industry experts support our GCSD Child Nutrition team with the tools they need to manage food allergies and diet modifications, and to ensure food safety and audit readiness.

Please visit the Chartwells webpage @ https://www.chartwellsk12.com/ for information and potential benefits for the GCSD students and staff.  Forward all questions to Sarah Crenshaw, GCSD Child Nutrition Director, at 601-947-6993 ext 2090.
